Renewable energy is a key battleground ahead of this year’s general election, but the latest government figures suggest UK investment in the sector has lagged significantly behind the rest of the world. Capacity grew just 7.7% in 2022, well down on the 24.26% growth recorded in 2015, meaning capacity has increased by an average of just 4.45% over the past few years, compared with an average global increase of 9.67%. What can be done to close the gap and accelerate the transition to renewables?
