Fifth State and Witttington Investments have received planning permission for a purpose-built co-living scheme in Bermondsey.
The scheme, which sits next to South Bermondsey station, will comprise four towers across two buildings and offer 605 co-living studios and 120 affordable homes – 67% social rent and 43% intermediates.
The North Building and the South Building will range from 10 to 27 storeys and the scheme will also provide flexible workspace, a wellbeing studio and gym, a recording studio, cinema, games rooms, shared kitchen and dining facilities and laundry facilities.
Retail and commercial units on the ground floor will activate the street frontage and a publicly accessible pocket park will be built between the two buildings.
Alex Springer, founder of Fifth State said: “We’re pleased to have brought forward a sustainable and exemplar mixed-use scheme which will deliver much-needed housing, affordable workspace and community uses for this area. By providing amenities like workspace, shared kitchen dining, and wellbeing studios, we can bring together a community in a space that speaks to the needs of its residents. The strength of this scheme is a testament to the vision of Southwark Council and the local community who see the potential in the co-living typology that gives London’s workers more choice in where they want to live.”
Nenad Manasijevic, principal director at tp Bennett, which designed the scheme, added: “Our plans for Ilderton Road will provide much-needed housing options for a variety of different users. This well-connected location, close to London Bridge, is an ideal place for young people and families to call home within a mixed-tenure community and we have designed these homes in a way that encourages integration and engagement between residents, from the range of high-quality shared amenities to the new pocket park which will be open to the public.”
