Lord Deben. who was chairman of the UK’s Independent Climate Change Committee between 2012 and 2023 and the UK’s longest serving Secretary of State for the Environment (1993 to 1997), will deliver the keynote speech at the event, which will also feature a Question Time-style panel debate chaired by BE News editor Liz Hamson and a c-suite networking session.
The event, which is sponsored by Maples Teesdale and MEES Solutions, could not be more timely as the industry struggles to navigate the increasingly confusing EPC landscape. In April 2023, new MEES regulations came into force that made it unlawful to let a commercial property with an energy performance certificate, or EPC, of less than E. However, at the Conservative Party Conference, the government scrapped plans to require residential rental properties to have an EPC rating of at least C by 2028. So, what exactly are the Tories’ intentions? What might happen under Labour? And how should landlords – commercial and residential – prepare?
