Fintech company Revolut has signed for 113,000 sq ft at Quadrant’s newly refurbished YY London in Canary Wharf for its new global HQ.
Revolut, which began as a start-up at Canary Wharf’s Level39 in 2015, is set to move into floors 9, 10, 11 and 12 of the 415,000 sq ft YY London and take more than 40% more space than it had in its Westferry Circus office.
Formerly known as 30 South Colonnade, the building was previously home to Thomson Reuters and was renowned for the stock ticker that ran around its curved façade.
The retrofit of YY London saw much of the building’s existing structure reused, saving an estimated 10,260 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The all-electric, BREEAM Outstanding-rated building is one of the UK’s first NABERS 5* rated workspaces.
YY London was purchased in 2019 by a joint venture between Quadrant and funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management.
Nik Storonsky, co-founder and CEO of Revolut, said: “We are delighted to be committing to a new global headquarters in the centre of London’s financial district. Revolut started out in 2015 with just a handful of employees. We have grown to over 10,000 employees globally, and our new headquarters will ensure we continue to build on this success. This office will serve as Revolut’s home as we expand across the globe.”
Francesca Carlesi, CEO of Revolut UK, added: “Revolut continues to grow from strength to strength across the UK. We now have over nine million customers, an astonishing milestone for a company less than a decade old. This new head office strengthens our commitment to the UK, our home country, whilst also establishing the foundation to support future growth. For our teams at Revolut, this will be much more than an office. It will be a space to co-create, innovate and work productively in, but also a new creative environment to attract new talent across engineering and banking fields. Working at Revolut will be for those wishing to be at the centre of the UK’s most innovative financial sector.”
Tristram Gethin, founding partner at Quadrant, said: “We welcome Revolut to YY London. Revolut’s story is exceptional, having grown from being a start-up on Canary Wharf’s Level39 in 2015, into a leading global fintech today. Canary Wharf has been completely transformed into a thriving mixed-use neighbourhood and leisure destination in recent years, which has been supported by YY London, a new sustainable building that delivers on what modern businesses like Revolut require from their workspace.
“That Revolut has expanded into such substantial space at YY London is testament to the building’s quality and signals the future Canary Wharf is set to have as a home to the world’s most innovative rapidly growing businesses.”
