Map the Gap campaign

Join the ‘Map the Gap’ campaign today. Help us measure the skills gap so we can close it.

When we launched BE News in early 2023, a key part of our mission was to use the platform to promote diversity, equity & inclusion across the built environment industry and to launch a campaign aimed at closing the skills gap.

In 2026, we realised that we needed to measure – or map – the gap before we could do that, and that we needed to do this collectively. We launched the ‘Map the Gap’ skills campaign in collaboration with Cobalt Recruitment to do just that.

The campaign, which is also supported by non-commercial partners including BEFA, BEST, The HerEstate Network and Class of Your Own, aims to ‘Map the Gap’ via two Built Environment Job Prospects Surveys, one for employees and one for employers.

Take part

To take part, all you need to do is click on one of the below links:

Built Environment Job Prospects Survey: Employee Survey

Built Environment Job Prospects Survey: Employer Survey

The surveys only take three to five minutes to complete and everyone who submits a completed survey by 31 October 2026 will automatically be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a cash prize.

The more professionals from across the industry who complete the surveys, the more robust and credible the findings will be, so please spread the word and share the links with colleagues and industry friends.

The survey findings will be revealed at a ‘Skills Gap Spotlight+’ event in early 2027 and used to inform an industry-wide initiative aimed at closing the skills gap or to petition government.

Key industry stakeholders and people at the sharp end of the skills crisis will be invited to the Skills Gap Spotlight+ event.
