Barings has hired Rupert Gill, former head of European real estate debt at BlackRock, to head up portfolio management for European real estate debt.
Gill spent seven years at BlackRock and prior to that held senior positions at LNR Partners Europe/Hatfield Philips International, Lloyds Bank and ABN Amro Bank.
In his new role, he will be responsible for the management of the European real estate debt portfolio management group, overseeing strategy development and the execution of investment solutions.
Gill will also sit on the European real estate debt investment and valuation committees and lead the European real estate debt portfolio management team, which covers private debt real estate mandates encompassing both co-mingled funds and SMAs in Europe. He will be based in London and report to Nasir Alamgir, head of US and European real estate debt.
Alamgir said: “I’m confident that Rupert’s deep-rooted experience and leadership will further enhance our ability to invest in and grow our global real estate lending business. His proven track record aligns with our belief that a long-term and sustainable outlook will help generate the most attractive risk-adjusted returns throughout cycles for our investors. We’re excited to welcome Rupert to the team.”
Gill added: “In an increasingly complex world clients are looking to partner with their investment managers to achieve their investment goals. Barings has built an impressive real estate debt business, and I am looking forward to working with the team to further develop the platform and provide clients with the solutions they require.”
