MSV Housing Group and Manchester City Council have submitted a planning application to redevelop the former Reno nightclub site in Moss Side, Manchester.
The £60m scheme will regenerate the brownfield site on Princess Road and deliver 212 affordable homes across buildings ranging from three to 10 storeys.
The development will provide a mix of 100 social rent homes, 28 older person social rent homes and 84 rent-to-buy properties. It will also feature larger three-, four- and five-bedroom family homes in addition to apartments.
Gavin White, Manchester City Council’s executive member for housing and development, said: “The Reno site is a landmark project for Moss Side that will create more than 200 genuinely affordable homes in the heart of the community. We know that demand is high for quality, sustainable homes that our residents can afford – and it’s major schemes like this that support Manchester people into great housing that is energy efficient and importantly, economical to run while energy prices continue to rise.
“We have made an ambitious commitment to help build at least 10,000 social, council and affordable homes across the city up to 2032 – and it’s the partnerships we have with the city’s housing providers that are helping us to meet and exceed these targets, making sure our residents have the homes they need to thrive.”

It also highlighted an urgent need for more smaller homes so people can right-size and free up larger homes for those with a growing family currently on the housing register.
“This, along with the new supply of larger three-, four- and five-bedroom homes will help relieve the overcrowding that some families currently endure. Moss Side is rightly a popular and desirable area, and we want to help people to be able to stay in the area in a warm safe home which both promotes their wellbeing and meets their needs, so I am really pleased to see this application finally put before committee and look forward to welcoming the residents once the development is complete. In the meantime, we will remain focussed on continuing to deliver services and community projects to the good people of Moss Side.”
