City & Country has submitted plans for a 480-home development across two sites near Stansted Airport.
The scheme, which was designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, will also include a shop, café, nursery and care home.
City & Country intends to deliver a collection of one to six-bedroom homes on the site, 50% of which will be deemed affordable through affordable rent and affordable home ownership.
Situated within City & Country’s wider landholding of 177 acres on land to the north of Birchanger and to the south of Stansted Mountfitchet, some of the farmland between the sites will remain in agricultural use.
Simon Vernon-Harcourt, design and planning director at City & Country, said: “City & Country has committed to delivering a landscape-led masterplan in a very sustainable location close to excellent transport and employment hubs. Our aim is to showcase how Grey Belt land can be put to best use through exemplar design and provision of significant infrastructure improvements including an extensive network of new pedestrian and cycle routes on land between the proposed development sites.
“These proposals will protect and enhance the surrounding ecological landscape and biodiversity while creating a sustainable neighbourhood that will complement the existing community. Placemaking and quality design and architecture have been at the forefront of our proposals, which have evolved during an involved consultation process with stakeholders and the public.”
