Vistry has completed the purchase of a development site in East Grinstead, West Sussex, from Welbeck Land after the site promoter secured hybrid planning consent for 550 mixed-tenure homes.
Vistry has forward sold 130 private homes to Barratt David Wilson for an undisclosed price and will deliver 165 affordable homes and 255 private homes itself at the site, which will also feature community facilities and green infrastructure.
Alongside new housing, the planning approval also includes a care village, which will be delivered by Rangeford Retirement Villages, as well as land for a new school to be delivered by West Sussex County Council.
Alex Jordan, managing director at Vistry South East, said: “We are very pleased to be taking forward this significant development opportunity in East Grinstead following the approval of the hybrid planning permission and subsequent acquisition in December 2025. This milestone has led to the submission of the reserved matters application in January 2026 and paved the way for much-needed new homes, including a substantial proportion of affordable housing, while enhancing the local environment and community infrastructure – showcasing our commitment to creating vibrant and thriving places for people to live.”
