Urban Village Group has started construction on a multi-million pound canal-side care home development in Blackburn.

Main contractor LNC Developments has been appointed to deliver the Eleanor Street senior living scheme, which will offer 70 en-suite bedrooms, seven independent living apartments and amenities including a gym and a hairdressers.

The development, which will be let to Bracebridge Care Group for a minimum of 25 years when it is completed, is expected to reach practical completion in Q1 2024.

Nick Sellman, chief executive of Urban Village Group, said: “We are very excited to announce that we have started work on our Eleanor Street development. We are very grateful to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council for its support.”

Samantha Crawley, chief operating officer at Bracebridge Care Group, said: “The care home we are creating in this community brings our philosophy of specialist care together with the most up-to-date technology. Delivering an enabling environment, supported by the best people in the sector, means we create a lived experience which people are proud to be part of.

“This development forms part of our mission to offer exceptional senior living provision in this country and will be a fantastic place for the people in the region. As people and populations grow older, the level of disability and dependency increases and impacts enormously on the demand for modern, forward thinking care services. Urban Village Healthcare is determined to help meet this demand through Bracebridge Healthcare Group.”
