The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has cleared the £3.5bn merger between Capital & Counties Properties (Capco) and Shaftesbury.
In May last year, it was announced the two landlords were in advanced talks on a merger, which would create a REIT with a circa 2.9m sq ft portfolio in high-profile locations like Covent Garden, Carnaby, Chinatown and Soho.
On 23 December 2022, the CMA announced the launch of its merger inquiry by issuing notice to the parties.
With the CMA now giving the plans the green light it is anticipated the merger, which has been approved by the shareholders of Shaftesbury and Capco, will complete on 6 March.
