Surya Hotels has acquired Theobalds Park Estate in Hertfordshire from the joint fixed charge receivers and joint administrators.
The property, which was sold off a guide price of £12.5m, is set in 55 acres of formal gardens and grounds, and offers 140 en-suite bedrooms, two restaurants, a bar, and extensive meeting and events facilities.
In recent years, the hotel, which has previously operated under hotel brands including DeVere and Birch, has undergone significant investment with more than £8m in capital expenditure since 2020. Surya intends to refurbish the hotel under its own branding.

Henry Jackson, partner at Knight Frank, which was appointed as the sole selling agent for the estate by the joint administrators last year, added: “We received strong interest and more than 10 credible offers for Theobalds Park Estate and are delighted to complete the transaction with Surya. Its strategic location and amenities mark it out as a premium asset that can be enhanced further through refurbishment and Surya’s expert management.”
