High-powered EV charging platform Hubber has secured a £60m equity commitment to acquire and develop strategically located plots in major UK cities.

The investment in the company, which was founded in 2024 by three former members of Tesla’s UK ‘supercharger’ team, was led by James Bayliss, former head trader at Elliott Advisors (UK), and Christopher Fox, ex-CFO of British Business Bank.

Hubber intends to initially acquire and deliver 30 operational hubs of around 0.2 to 2-acres and has an active pipeline across London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and other key UK cities.

The company’s first site in Lewisham, South East London, is due to open next week in partnership with RAW Charging.

Hubber’s founders – Harry Fox, Connor Selwood and Hugh Leckie – delivered more than 100 Tesla Supercharger sites and more than 1,200 ultra-rapid charging points before the company’s supercharger division was disbanded by Elon Musk in April 2024.

Fox said: “High-powered charging is a once-in-a-generation development opportunity. We’re assembling a portfolio of freehold, power-enabled sites in key urban centres. These assets that will form part of the UK’s core infrastructure for decades to come.”

Bayliss added: “Urban EV charging remains one of the UK’s biggest infrastructure challenges. This uniquely skilled team now has the capital to address it, and we expect their work to make a significant and lasting impact on the country’s electrification.”
