A mid-19th century former gun tower in the mouth of the River Medway exceeded its £150,000 guide price at Savills’ 20 September auction.
The property, which has the iconic No 1 the Thames address, sold for £159,000 and helped Savills raise more than £36m at the auction from the sale of 108 lots – a 71% success rate.
A mixed-use property in Worcester Park sold for £1,175,000 – significantly over its £750,000 guide price – and a substantial office building in Hastings sold for £1,110,000.
Residential highlights included two flats in Battersea which sold above guide for £1,120,000 and houses in Twickenham and Bristol which both sold prior to the sale for close to £1,000,000 each.
Jeremy Lamb, Savills Auctions director, said: “Yesterday’s sale saw six of our auctioneers take to the rostrum over the course of the day. Quality well-priced properties, whether commercial, residential or mixed-use, continue to generate significant demand and achieve excellent sale prices. Year-to-date we have sold 50% more lots than last year making September 2023 our biggest ever both by volume and amount raised, with almost 500 lots between the two September catalogues.
“Our live-stream auction method consistently adopted during last three years continues to deliver market-leading results by allowing our skilled auctioneers to tailor the bidding to an individual lot, while giving bidders the flexibility to bid on any lots of interest as the day progresses.”
The next auction takes place on 10 October and instructions are currently being taken.
