Applications are now open for Gensler’s 2024 Diversity in Design Bursary and Micro Prizes, which is now in its third year.
Through the initiative, Gensler aims to break down the barriers to access in the architectural profession for underrepresented ethnic minority students in the UK.
Applicants for the 2024 Diversity in Design Bursary are invited to respond to a design challenge from one of four prompts that address current societal issues, such as re-establishing trust in public safety, rethinking housing to address the homelessness crisis, reimagining ways for designers to make a difference and designing for racial equity and inclusivity in our communities and cities. All submissions will be shortlisted, and the selected finalists will be invited to present their response to the design challenge to a jury.
The winner of the 2024 Diversity in Design Bursary will be awarded £10,000 to support their studies and will also be considered for a paid year-out placement or internship at Gensler’s London office, where they will be paired with a mentor who will serve as a resource during the year-out placement and ensuing academic year.

Grace Orimoyegun, winner of the 2023 Diversity in Design Bursary, added: “Winning the Diversity in Design Bursary has not only boosted my self-confidence but has enabled me to kick off my professional career at one of the best design firms globally. In my first few months at Gensler, I have learned many skills, met a lot of talented people, and reignited my love for architecture. The industry has historically not reflected the diversity of our communities, and this initiative is a great step forward in making the architecture profession more accessible.”
The 2024 Diversity in Design Bursary is open to underrepresented ethnic minority students enrolled in a UK educational institution who are currently in their final year of a RIBA-accredited Part I architecture programme. The Micro Prizes are open to students at any stage of their architectural studies in the UK.
