Barratt David Wilson Homes has acquired a circa £74m GDV residential development site in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, with hybrid planning permission for 184 new homes.

The 13-acre scheme will deliver a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments alongside two- to four-bedroom houses. Of the new homes, 40% will be deemed affordable housing, comprising a tenure mix of shared ownership and affordable rent.

Works are due to commence this autumn with first completions anticipated in late 2026.

Bill Beyzade, managing director at Barratt David Wilson North Thames, said: “Thanks to a recent strategic land deal with Vistry, we are pleased to announce our latest acquisition in Sawbridgeworth, which will see 184 new quality homes delivered over the next five years. Crucially, 40% of the development will be affordable, offering opportunities to local buyers and renters alike to secure more accessible homes.

“We have strong roots in this area, with our recently completed Sawbridge Park development to the west of Sawbridgeworth, and our historic Gilden Park development in Harlow. We look forward to continuing to work with the local community and authorities alike to bring forward much-needed homes and infrastructure over the coming years.”
