Mitsui Fudosan UK has selected Mace as construction manager on the £1.1bn redevelopment of the British Library’s St Pancras site.
Mace will join the project under the direction of development manager Stanhope and will contribute construction expertise for the procurement and delivery phase of the development, which is being led by SMBL – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsui Fudosan.
The proposals include a 100,000 sq ft extension to the library, comprising new spaces to enhance its public service offer, and more than 600,000 sq ft of commercial facilities. The project also includes exhibition galleries, events spaces and learning facilities.
Construction is due to start on site in 2026, once detailed design is complete and planning conditions are met, and the construction work is expected to take around six years to complete.
