Tapi has agreed a multi-million pound deal to buy the Carpetright brand, intellectual property, two warehouses and 54 UK stores.
Carpetright, which employed more than 1,800 staff and operated 273 shops across the country, appointed PwC to find a buyer for the ailing business earlier this month.
Tapi Carpets and Floors, which was founded in 2015 and currently operates 170 showrooms, said the pre-pack administration deal would save more than 300 jobs and enable the business to expand into a number of new areas not currently served by Tapi.
The 54 stores acquired by Tapi will temporarily close for a few days with the remaining Carpetright stores closing permanently.
In a statement Tapi said: “We are desperately sad not to have been able to save more of the business and customer orders. However, as we looked into the details of the situation, we quickly established that saving the entire business was unviable. Carpetright has been materially loss making for a number of years, and it has significant debt held by the owner. We believe that we were the only offer that the administrator received that saved a large number of roles. We were also mindful of how the Competition and Markets Authority may view a larger deal.”
