BE News is delighted to announce that the new RBT Housing Commission chair Alex Notay will be delivering the keynote speech at our free-to-attend Spotlight on Single-Family Housing, which is taking place on Tuesday 19 November in Birmingham.
Notay, who took over as chair of the Radix Big Tent Housing Commission from Dame Kate Barker in August, is the main author of the report Beyond the Permacrisis – Delivering 1,000 Homes a Day, which was published this week and called for the creation of a cross-departmental housing delivery unit and introduction of wide-reaching planning reforms to tackle the housing “permacrisis”. Until July 2024, Notay was placemaking and investment director at Thriving Investments (formerly PfP Capital).
In her speech, Notay will talk about the commission’s agenda, the report recommendations, the government’s response and the ramifications of the Autumn Budget. She will also share her insights into the role single-family housing can play in addressing the housing crisis.
The Spotlight on Single-Family Housing, which is sponsored by Bidwells, DWF, Placefirst and Yardi, will be hosted by Casa by Moda at its Loudon’s Yard scheme in Birmingham and explore the question: ‘How do we unlock housing’s single biggest opportunity?’
As well as Notay’s keynote speech, the event will feature a one-hour Question Time-style panel debate, chaired by BE News editor Liz Hamson, and networking for 80 senior industry figures. The stellar line-up of panellists includes: David Mawson, chief executive officer at Placefirst; Paul Langford, strategic director, city housing at Birmingham City Council; Iain Murray, head of operational living at Bidwells; Melanie Williams, global head of real estate at DWF; Justin Harley, regional director at Yardi; Liz Williams, expert on land acquisition, planning and development at Centre for the New Midlands; and Jamie Younger, fund director at Thriving Investments.
They will assess the role of AI, technology and data, the lessons that can be learned from overseas markets and the incentives and policy changes needed to drive sector growth. They will also explore how big the burgeoning sector could become as more players such as CPP Investments and Kennedy Wilson, which this week launched a £1bn UK SFH JV, enter the market.
