Panther Securities has been given the go-ahead by planners for the redevelopment of the former Beales department store in Peterborough.
The store, which is located within the city centre conservation area, closed in 2020 and Panther put forward proposals for a mixed-use scheme designed by Ash Sakula Architects providing 125 new homes.
The locally listed Victorian department store building will form the core of the residential-led development, which will also offer 846 sq m (circa 9,100 sq ft) of flexible retail, café and workspace, private gardens, pocket parks and a playground.
Cany Ash, partner at Ash Sakula, said: “There’s something for everyone in this development. This shows how reusing a tricky but characterful building can become a catalyst for the future of this historic quarter of Peterborough.”
