Plans to redevelop The Meadows Shopping Centre in Chelmsford have been shelved by the fixed charge receivers.
Following the recent appointment of Matthew Nagle and Kevin Mersh from Savills as fixed charge receivers over the asset, fresh plans are being worked up to revitalise the site and secure its future as a vibrant retail and leisure destination.
The receivers have retained Estama as property manager of the centre and the focus is now on attracting new investment, securing well-known retail brands and upgrading facilities to better serve the local community.
Estama is currently in active discussions with several major national brands with new names expected to join the scheme soon.
Ross Campbell, director and head of asset management at Estama, said: “We know how much The Meadows means to the people of Chelmsford. We’re looking forward to working closely with the centre’s landlords to bring a mix of new stores to both the centre and the city. Creating a destination that locals will want to return to week after week.”
Work on transforming the centre is set to begin shortly with more updates and store announcements to be shared throughout the summer.
