Savills has expanded the capabilities of its Savills Earth energy, infrastructure and renewables team with the appointment of James Foster as a senior consultant.

Foster previously worked for Syzygy Consulting for almost four years, where he concentrated on private wire and modelling for bespoke strategic projects, including solar farm projects. Prior to that, he focused on demand side energy forecasting and settlements for energy suppliers.

Thomas McMillan, director at Savills Earth, said: “Hiring James comes at a critical time for the private wire space, as there has been a recent uplift in the Transmission Impact Assessment threshold from 1MW to 5MW. This change will not only accelerate the grid connection process for new projects between 1MW and 5MW but reduce grid application costs and grid connection works. James’ addition to our team increases our efforts to delivering best-in-class energy advisory services, and allows Savills to focus on a greater number of private wire opportunities for bespoke solar and wind projects.”

Foster added: “Joining Savills at such a fundamental time in the energy sector is an excellent opportunity. I look forward to focusing on private wire agreements which not only bring value to a wide range of stakeholders but are becoming increasingly important to clients as they seek to decarbonise their portfolios. These agreements ensure access to low carbon energy that meets the highest ‘Gold Standard’ classification set by the UK Green Building Council.”
