US student housing provider Landmark Properties has expanded into the UK and Ireland markets and has appointed Tom Banning to head up its operations.

Banning was formerly senior vice president development at CA Ventures and prior to that he worked at Watkin Jones Group, Threesixty Developments and Knightsbridge Student Housing.

In his new role, Banning will act as director of UK and Ireland development and will oversee a “seasoned” UK-based team assembled by Landmark.

The company said the UK and Ireland markets “offer attractive opportunities for student housing development due to a supply-demand imbalance, rising enrolment numbers, and a less mature market than the US”.

Wes Rogers, president and CEO of Landmark Properties, said: “As Landmark Properties celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, we are thrilled to announce our expansion into the European market. We see a tremendous opportunity to develop purpose-built student housing in the UK and Ireland and are confident that our expertise in developing high-quality student accommodations will be well-received.”
