Bristol City Council’s housing company Goram Homes has appointed Vistry Group to build 140 new homes in Lockleaze, Bristol.
The two partners secured planning approval for the disused council depot site in December 2023. The new scheme will provide 50% affordable homes for social rent and shared ownership and Vistry plans to sell the remaining homes on the open market via one of its three retail sales brands.
The homes will be built in apartment blocks of up to four storeys and will comprise a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments and two-, three- and four-bedroom houses.
Susan Scholfield, regional managing director of Vistry Bristol, said: “We’re very pleased to be working in partnership with Goram to transform this brownfield site into a collection of new, mixed tenure homes. The benefits of our wider partnership with Goram Homes are now taking effect, with the first homes at neighbouring One Lockleaze complete. Together we can make a real difference to local housing supply, providing Bristolians with opportunities to own or rent an affordable home that best suits their needs.”
Stephen Baker, managing director of Goram Homes, added: “This is a prime example of why Goram Homes was set up. Working with Vistry, we will turn under used council land, that’s been used as storage for years, into a thriving new neighbourhood. Half of the housing here will be affordable, for council-owned social rent or shared ownership, providing much needed new homes for those who need it most.”
