Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) has announced its chief executive officer Simon Murphy is stepping down from the role in March.
Murphy, who joined BPSDC as chief financial officer in 2012, when a Malaysian consortium acquired the development site, was appointed CEO of the company in April 2018.
He has played an integral role in the redevelopment and restoration of the Grade II* listed former power station, which sits at the heart of the major mixed-use development.
Tan Sri Jagan Sabapathy, chairman of Battersea Power Station Project Holding Company, said: “On behalf of Battersea Power Station’s shareholders, I would like to thank Simon for his leadership and unstinting commitment which have been instrumental in delivering the ambitious vision for the site and in creating an exciting new and inclusive riverside neighbourhood for London.
“This resulted in the power station opening its doors to the public for the first time ever in October 2022, and welcoming over 11 million visitors to the riverside neighbourhood in the following 12 months to what is now one of the greatest developments in the world.”
Murphy added: “After working on the Battersea Power Station development for 11 years of which the past six have been as CEO and with construction of the first three key phases of the project now complete, substantially leased and sold, it is the right time for me to move on. It has been a huge honour to have played a part in delivering such a special addition to the London landscape.
“While there have been many challenges along the way these have been more than eclipsed by the many remarkable highlights such as bringing the iconic Grade II* listed building back to life after a thorough restoration and collaborating with Transport for London to deliver the first extension to the London Underground in 25 years.
“I would like to thank the entire team for their incredible efforts, as well as our shareholders for their unwavering support and advice and for restoring Battersea Power Station to its former glory so it can be enjoyed by generations to come. I’m very proud to have been a member of ‘team Battersea’ and will look forward to watching the project go from strength to strength in the future.”
