The Grade II listed county hall in Ipswich is being put up for sale at auction next week with a guide price of £895,000.
The vacant landmark building, which is prominently located on a corner plot on St Helen’s Street, comes with full planning permission for conversion into 40 residential apartments
Originally constructed in 1836, Ipswich County Hall was initially used as a jail and later served as a law court and council offices. It was the headquarters of East Suffolk County Council until 1974 and remained under the ownership of Suffolk County Council until 2004 when the council moved to new premises on Russell Road.
The site is being brought to market on 13 May by Savills auctions on behalf of a private client who, in partnership with Thurlow Architects, secured the planning consent for the conversion.
