A Kent-based private investor has acquired the historic The Citadel fort site in Dover for an undisclosed price.
Situated on the Western Heights, the heritage site extends to 32.75 acres and comprises 217,371 sq ft of accommodation spread across 54 buildings.
The Citadel is divided into four distinct parts – the Parade Ground, the Western Outworks, the car park and additional lands, and the Revetment – which each offer unique opportunities for development and regeneration.
Having played a key role in the Napoleonic era and both World Wars, The Citadel holds scheduled monument status and includes a number of listed buildings.
Ali Rana, head of national capital markets at Carter Jonas, which was appointed to market the asset, said: “We are delighted to have concluded the sale of this truly exceptional site to a locally based private investor with extensive experience in the stewardship and maintenance of complex heritage assets, particularly across Kent. The purchase price has not been disclosed.”
