A private island located on the South Coast close to Plymouth has been put up for sale by the receivers for £2m+.
Kirker & Co has instructed Carter Jonas to market the freehold of the six-acre Drake’s Island which is situated around 600m from the mainland and is reachable in under five minutes by private motorboat. The island previously welcomed visitors via organised ferry tours from Plymouth.
Drake’s Island benefits from planning consent for the redevelopment of a 43-bedroom hotel with visitor facilities and associated infrastructure works.
Named after Sir Francis Drake, the island has played a pivotal role in Britain’s maritime and military history for more than 400 years and includes more than 30,000 sq ft of historic buildings, including the Grade II-listed Governor’s House, former barracks, casemates, coastal batteries and an extensive underground tunnel network.
