Edinburgh’s historic Millburn Tower has been put up for sale with a price tag of £1.8m+.
Located in Gogar to the west of Edinburgh, the building is formed as a two-storey castellated keep with a long Tudor Gothic wing and was built in the early 19th century for the diplomat Sir Robert Liston. The B-listed country house is currently used for commercial purposes, but could be converted back to residential use, subject to planning.
The wider estate extends to 17 acres and is surrounded by woodland and open green space. In addition to the main building, the ancillary Millburn Lodge provides detached residential accommodation over two floors, including a sitting room, snug, kitchen, bathroom and two double bedrooms. Currently used as a private residence, it could be used for guest or staff accommodation, or for multi-generational living, subject to consents.
Neil Scott, director at Knight Frank Edinburgh, which has been appointed to market the opportunity, said: “Millburn Tower presents a rare and highly compelling opportunity in Edinburgh. Its scale, setting and heritage are genuinely unique and open the door to a wide range of possibilities, including conversion back to residential use, subject to the necessary consents. For buyers with that vision in mind, opportunities of this quality and architectural interest seldom come to market. It also has the potential to offer multi-generational living, with the ancillary building on the estate. As a result, we expect to see a great deal of interest in the estate from all corners of the globe.”
Toby Withall, partner at Knight Frank Edinburgh, added: “From a commercial perspective, Millburn Tower presents a unique opportunity for office occupiers in Edinburgh. Properties of such character and heritage are rarely available for office purposes, particularly in this location. It could be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to acquire a highly distinctive headquarters for the right business. Equally, while it has been used as an office, it could also be suited to hospitality, leisure or a mixed-use concept. Whatever use its future owner decides upon, it is a rare asset with the flexibility to support multiple viable commercial pathways.”
