Mace has been appointed to redevelop Panorama St Paul’s, BT’s former London HQ, at 81 Newgate Street.
Located in the heart of the City, Mace has been appointed as the main contractor by a subsidiary of a fund sponsored by Orion Capital Managers, to completely remodel the existing structure and extend the building to 13 storeys, creating a new mixed-use destination of offices, landscaped terraces, a retail arcade at street-level and a rooftop terrace with a restaurant and wildflower meadow that will be open to the public.
Working with the existing structure has cut the carbon footprint of the redevelopment in half compared with a full demolition and rebuild, according to Mace, with more than 1,500 tones of Portland stone and granite set to be redesigned and re-used.
Retaining the original building’s core structure achieves carbon savings of 465kg CO2 per sq m and since pre-construction works began in March 2021, Mace and architects Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, have saved 296 tonnes of carbon by replacing the concrete piles with a more environmentally-friendly steel pile solution.

The redevelopment of Panorama St Paul’s, which is expected to complete in 2025, is targeting BREEAM Outstanding for the offices, Wiredscore Platinum and NABERS 5* Excellent rating.
