Bargate has agreed an option agreement with a private landowner to promote a 77.54-acre site in Wickham, Hampshire.
The land is located within the jurisdiction of Winchester City Council and the council’s local plan is currently under examination.
Bargate and its team of consultants will now consider proposals to promote the site through the local plan process.
Mark White, managing director of Bargate, said: “This scenic part of Hampshire is highly desirable, with Wickham village offering a vibrant community with a wonderful range of independent shops and facilities. However, with Wickham’s average house price over £479,500, there is an urgent need for additional homes to meet the needs of local people.
“The scale of this prime site enables the potential creation of a high quality new community of eco-focused family homes within easy reach of Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester. It could help to meet Winchester City Council’s housing targets at a time when there is a considerable shortfall in the number of new homes being built.”
