AXA IM Alts has agreed to sell European data centre platform Data4 to Brookfield Infrastructure for an undisclosed price.
The global alternative investments group acquired full control of Data4 in 2018 and during its ownership Data4’s portfolio has grown to 31 data centres across six countries with 850MW secured power.
AXA said the “accelerated expansion programme” allowed it to complete its business plan for the platform “ahead of schedule and to crystallise value on behalf of clients”.
This investment is Brookfield’s first major entry into the European data centre market and the company said it would “leverage its ecosystem to provide best-in-class greenfield development and renewable power capabilities to further build the business throughout Europe. Data4’s long-term inflation-linked contracted business model, with blue-chip hyperscale customers, provides stable and recurring revenues that fit well within Brookfield’s investment strategy”.
