The freehold of an Anglican Benedictine monastery in Hampshire has been put up for sale
The 26,954 sq ft Alton Abbey is located on a 43.59-acre site in the village of Beech, close to Alton. The abbey was founded in 1895 and the site also features a gatehouse, church and bungalow.
The site could be used for a wide range of alternative uses including hospitality, residential and later living.
Alton Abbey is currently owned by the trustees of the charity The Order of St Benedict At Alton Abbey. For nearly 130 years, more than 80 monks and one nun have been life-professed within the monastery, however, the community has dwindled in recent years and so it is no longer viable to continue to operate the site.
