General Demolition has been appointed by LKTMJ as demolition and enabling contractor for the initial phase of the redevelopment of 5 Chancery Lane, EC4.
The retrofit of the 1910-built office building is being project managed by development manager LS Estates and will see 100,000 sq ft of modern workspace created on the site.
The Foggo Associates-designed scheme, which received planning consent in 2020, will see the top floor demolished and the incorporation of two new floors using a state-of-the-art cross laminated timber (CLT) structure. The building’s core will also be remodelled.
By retaining 86% of the existing building structure, it is estimated the redevelopment will save 4,800 tonnes of CO2e, while diverting 95% of construction waste from landfill.
Demolition work is set to begin on 1 June 2023 and complete in November 2023.
