Host Student Housing has appointed Chris Mcilhinney as the company’s new commercial director.

Mcilhinney has more than 14 years’ experience in sales, marketing and budgeting in the student accommodation sector and previously held senior leadership positions at CA Ventures’ PBSA business Novel Student and at The Mansion Group.

In his new role, Mcilhinney will be instrumental in shaping and implementing Host’s commercial strategy.

Mcilhinney said: “I have an incredibly exciting opportunity to join Host and perform a key role in helping ensure the financial success of our PBSA assets under management, continuing to build close and effective relations with universities and investors, driving student experience and growing the number of beds under management. The company’s dedication and commitment to innovation, best practice, and customer success is truly inspiring. I look forward to working with this talented team to build on the strong foundations and drive our commercial success to new levels.”

John Nesbitt, managing director at Host, added: “We are operating in an increasingly competitive market which is growing both domestically and internationally, where investors and students alike are demanding best-in-class services and operations that deliver value. This appointment represents a significant, strategic addition to our senior leadership team, which under our director of operations Sam Hollex, is continuing its rapid evolution where we are investing significantly in people and technology, creating a robust and sustainable platform for the long-term future.

“Chris’ expertise and vision will be invaluable as we continue to expand our services and reach new heights in all aspects of the Host customer experience. Chris’s warm and collaborative approach aligns perfectly with our company culture, and we are confident that he will be a tremendous asset to Host.”
