Student accommodation specialist Urbanite has put the landmark former Yorkshire Post site in Leeds city centre up for sale.

The company has planning consent for a mixed-use development providing 1,725 student beds and 348 BTR apartments on the 4.72-acre site, which is located on the banks of the River Aire.

Set across three towers, the development will offer an extensive range of indoor and outdoor amenity space.

Alex Kitts, associate at Gerald Eve, which has been appointed to market the opportunity, said: “Leeds has one of the strongest demographic profiles for student accommodation and build-to-rent of any market in the UK. With currently only 24,000 student beds available for a student body of almost 70,000, we have seen rental growth at 5% throughout the 2022/2023 letting season and a clear need for additional stock in the city.”

Bobby Barnett, partner at Gerald Eve, added: “We are delighted to market this site on behalf of our client, which will contribute to the regeneration of Leeds city centre through the creation of a vibrant new living quarter that will set a new benchmark for high-quality urban living. Leeds is a proven location for build-to-rent and will need to maintain a strong pipeline of homes in the coming years to meet population growth.”
