BE News is delighted to reveal that the Rt. Hon John Gummer, Lord Deben, will be delivering the keynote speech at our high-level, free-to-attend event on 28 February exploring ’How to navigate the EPC minefield’.

Lord Deben, who will set the scene at BE News’ second event to take place in front of a c-suite audience, was chairman of the UK’s Independent Climate Change Committee between 2012 and 2023 and the UK’s longest serving Secretary of State for the Environment (1993 to 1997). He is also the founder and chairman of Sancroft International, which advises businesses and investors on sustainability and ESG, and the chairman of Valpak and of PIMFA.

As well as hearing from Lord Deben, the audience will be able to participate in a Question Time-style panel debate, chaired by BE News editor Liz Hamson, and a c-suite networking session.

The event could not be more timely as the industry struggles to navigate the increasingly confusing EPC landscape. In April 2023, new MEES regulations came into force that made it unlawful to let a commercial property with an energy performance certificate, or EPC, of less than E. However, at the Conservative Party Conference, the government scrapped plans to require residential rental properties to have an EPC rating of at least C by 2028. So, what exactly are the Tories’ intentions? What might happen under Labour? And how should landlords – commercial and residential – prepare?

These are just some of the questions we will be debating during the Question Time-style panel debate, when audience members will have the opportunity to grill a stellar panel comprising:

  • Andres Guzman, head of ESG at Tishman Speyer
  • Melanie Leech, chief executive of the BPF
  • Tyler Goodwin, chief executive and founder of Seaforth Land
  • Samantha Kempe, co-founder and chief investment officer at IMMO
  • Anastasia Klein, partner at Maples Teesdale
  • Andrew Knapp, director at MEES Solutions

The event, which is sponsored by Maples Teesdale and MEES Solutions, will take place between 5pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday 28 February at the offices of ING Media in Shoreditch.

Places are strictly limited, so if you would like to be part of the high-level audience, please get in contact now with BE News head of operations Sian Wilde at sian@benews.co.uk. If you are interested in sponsoring the event, please contact head of sales Nick Stroffolino at nick@benews.co.uk.
