McLaren Construction has been awarded the £28m contract for the construction of the St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in London.
The hub, which will serve people in the boroughs of Havering, Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham, will bring together primary care, mental health and prevention services, along with cancer care and dialysis, in purpose-built premises.
In addition to delivering space for medical services, the hub also includes a community café, multi-purpose education and meeting spaces and a sensory, dementia-friendly communal garden.
McLaren will use a mix of traditional and modern methods of construction for the three-storey building, which is scheduled to complete in the first half of 2024.

We have been able to help this expert partnership deliver their ambitious plans in an affordable way, despite rising construction costs, through the right mix of modern technology and traditional construction methods. With recent instructions from both the NHS and private sector healthcare providers, McLaren is taking an active part in the transformation of primary care services in England.”
Zina Etheridge, chief executive officer at NHS North East London Health and Care Partnership, added: “This fantastic new building will help transform the way we deliver health and care in Havering and across north east London. By bringing such a wide range of services into the heart of the community, and working in partnership with local voluntary groups, we hope that it will provide an exemplar model for how to deliver wrap-around care tailored to the needs of local people.”
