The Conservative MP for Redditch, Rachel Maclean, has been appointed as the new housing minister, replacing Lucy Frazer at the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).
Frazer, who only held the position for three months, was promoted to secretary of state for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, as part of a cabinet reshuffle announced by prime minister Rishi Sunak earlier this week.
Maclean, who was elected Conservative MP for Redditch in 2017, is the 15th housing minister since the Tory party took office in 2010. She was minister of state at the Ministry of Justice between 7 September and 28 October 2022 and sat on the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee between September 2017 and June 2018. She also served as a Parliamentary private secretary in the Home Office, Department for Work and Pensions and HM Treasury.
Outside politics Maclean worked in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong for HSBC and in 2005 she set up a publishing company with her husband specialising in IT and software.
More recently she co-founded a HR software business which provides a platform for SMEs to use the latest technology tools to run their businesses more efficiently and founded ‘Skilled and Ready’, a charity working with schools to help young people develop skills that businesses look for in their employees.
