Lenrose Investments has submitted a planning application on behalf of landowner-developer Thames Plaza for a new 966-home village at Fossetts in Southend.

The site previously had planning permission for a new stadium for Southend United Football Club alongside enabling residential. However, in 2024 Thames Plaza, the new owners of Southend United and the city council agreed a new development plan whereby the club would remain at its long-standing home at Roots Hall Stadium.

Jack Martin, director of Lenrose and Thames Plaza, said: “The proposed development at Fossetts will deliver an exemplar, sustainable new residential community for Southend. The scheme will include a significant amount of high quality private and affordable homes to rent, along with new homes for sale and a range of onsite amenities. We are looking forward to working with our partners, including Southend City Council, to deliver this landmark scheme for the city.

“In addition, this development will make significant financial contributions towards the redevelopment of Roots Hall Stadium, assisting the club on its journey to a sustainable future and further cementing its place at the heart of the community.”
