There has been a 49.6% year-on-year increase in UK purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) viewings from the US so far this lettings cycle, according to the latest data from StuRents.
The uptick supports recent UCAS data, which recorded a 13.9% rise in US applications to UK universities.
StuRents’ data shows an average PBSA viewed price of £214 (per person per week) for US students, which is £26 higher than the average price point being viewed by UK students.
Richard Ward, head of research at StuRents, said: “For the student property industry in the UK, diversification of global appeal is critical. The US student population is a significant group that can support our universities, town centres and property sector. As we’ve seen with China, the US represents a key market with strong purchasing power, and tapping into this demand helps reduce over reliance on any single region, which is likely to benefit both our universities and accommodation providers.”
