WP Carey has completed the acquisition of two Morrisons supermarkets in Loughborough and Ilkeston for £51m.
The Loughborough store is located in a densely built-up, residential neighbourhood and the Ilkeston store is surrounded by a mixture of small businesses and residential units, and both are both triple net leased to the grocery retailer.
WP Carey acquired its first Morrisons supermarket in January 2024 and in December last year it purchased another Morrisons supermarket and a drive-thru leased to McDonald’s.
Christopher Mertlitz, head of European investments at WP Carey, said: “We are pleased to build on our relationship with Morrisons, acquiring another set of high quality grocery assets. This investment aligns with our core strategy of acquiring essential, well-located real estate backed by market-leading tenants and it underlines our confidence in the strength and growth potential of the UK grocery sector.”
