Shaftesbury’s head of finance Alastair Deutsch has left the business following its merger with Capital & Counties in March to form Shaftesbury Capital.
In the merged business Deutsch, who was also a member of Shaftesbury’s executive committee, held the role of director of finance.
Prior to joining Shaftesbury in September 2020, Deutsch spent almost a decade at Landsec, where he held several finance and treasury roles, including commercial finance director. Before joining Landsec, he worked as a finance analyst at Sky and as an assistant manager audit at KPMG UK.
BE News understands Deutsch has not left the business to join another firm. Deutsch and Shaftesbury Capital declined to comment.
Deutsch is one of a number of people who have left the business since the merger completed. Retail director Samantha Bain-Mollison, who joined Shaftesbury in late 2011 from Cushman & Wakefield, has also left, as has former Shaftesbury CEO Brian Bickell who retired immediately following the merger’s completion.
In an exit interview with BE News in April, Bickell acknowledged that there would inevitably be structural and cultural changes at the newly merged business.
He added that Shaftesbury had been unusual in its ability to retain staff, with many members of the team effectively “lifers”.
“One or two people have left us over the years, but it’s been a pretty stable team. People enjoy working here,” said Bickell.
