British Land has received planning permission from Southwark Council for new homes, retail and green space at its Canada Water development in London.
The developer has been given the green light for Zone G of the masterplan, designed by architects Maccreanor Lavington, which comprises a brand new Tesco Extra supermarket and an underground public town centre car park, with five residential buildings situated above.
The residential buildings will provide 384 new homes – 42% affordable [by habitable room] – a large new residents’ podium garden and play space.
British Land has also received planning permission for a new park, which will be located across a portion of Surrey Quays Leisure Park and part of the car park of the former Printworks building. Landscape architects Townshend designed the park, which features a café pavilion designed by Feix & Merlin and an adventure play space conceived by Dutch studio Carve.

Zone G and the park will bring new green space for all to enjoy, along with homes, shops, cafés and public amenities that will all add to what Canada Water has to offer.

For the park, we also undertook over six months’ worth of engagement with local groups and organisations in order to shape the vision and we are grateful to everyone locally who viewed and commented on the plans prior to their approval.”
