HIG Realty and Lateral have submitted a planning application for a 110,000 sq ft life sciences scheme at 100-136 Cavell Street in Whitechapel, London.
The site is the first to be brought forward by a private life-sciences investor as part of the rapidly growing Whitechapel Life Science Cluster, which includes Barts Health NHS Trust, Queen Mary University London, Barts Life Sciences, NHS Property Services and the Department of Health and Social Care.
The scheme, which was designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, will offer affordable lab space, incubators fitted with shared specialist equipment and a knowledge centre to be used for community outreach.
Jérôme Fouillé, managing director at HIG Capital, said: “We have identified this location as one of the most promising across London to develop a state-of-the art life sciences building within the Whitechapel Life Science Cluster. We believe it will help fuel innovation and research growth in the heart of Whitechapel.”
Rob Beacroft, co-founder at Lateral, added: “We share a phenomenal collective vision to create a world-class life sciences cluster that will accelerate life changing health outcomes. We are committed to the local community, driving health and wellbeing, delivering long-term high-quality jobs, creating clear pathways into the sector, enhancing economic prosperity, promoting and delivering STEM education across the curriculum, and introducing green, clean and secure spaces.”
The project team at 100-136 Cavell Street also includes CMA Planning, Buro Happold, Evolve and 3PM.
