Kangaroo Self Storage has acquired its first site in the North East of England.
The self-storage company has purchased a 39,700 sq ft former retail warehouse on the edge of Hylton Retail Park, off Wessington Way in Sunderland, for an undisclosed sum.
The warehouse will be transformed into a multi-purpose storage centre providing more than 60,000 sq ft of lettable space, including a business hub providing offices and meeting rooms.
Gareth Dougherty, acquisitions manager at Kangaroo Self Storage, said: “As an edge of city site, Wessington Way is a perfect location. The road is a key arterial route into Sunderland and the site is at a major roundabout at the junction of Hylton Retail Park which is fast becoming the city’s major retail destination. It’s a very visible site with easy access and ample parking. Sunderland provides a perfect introduction to the North East of England as the business looks to broaden its reach across the UK.”
Kangaroo Self Storage currently has 10 operational facilities across the North West of England and Scotland. The Sunderland site is scheduled to open later this year.
