Green leases continue to grow in popularity. A rising number of developers and investors are demanding them, making them a prerequisite for planning and funding. While the focus has mainly been on the ‘E’ in ESG and not the ‘S’, the evolution of green leases has reached a point where social is just as important a consideration as the environmental impact. Whether this will mean the green lease of the future will be a social one, or the environmental and social considerations will blend into one ‘super green lease’, is open to debate.
But do people actually care about green leases? This was one of a number of key questions put to a panel of built environment industry experts at a roundtable discussion hosted by BE News and sponsored by Maples Teesdale at the Footprint+ 2024 event at Old Billingsgate in mid-May.
