Barings has promoted Ian Mayhew to the role of head of real estate equity asset management – Europe.
Mayhew, who has been with Barings for almost 18 years, was most recently head of UK real estate asset management.
He is taking on the role from James Salmon, who retired earlier this month following 20 years at Barings.
In his new role, Mayhew will lead a team of 20 asset management specialists across Europe. A key focus for the team will be to prioritise delivering social and environmental sustainability alongside a proactive and customer-focused approach towards asset management.
Mayhew said: “As a global platform with on the ground expertise in each of our preferred markets, Barings has an excellent track record of delivering against business plans and adding value on behalf of our investors. In this new role, my focus is developing our already strong asset management capabilities, ensuring consistency of process and standards to deliver best-in-class products across asset classes, particularly in our favoured sectors of logistics, offices, and residential.”
Nick Pink, managing director and head of European real estate equity at Barings, added: “While we believe we’ve entered a new real estate cycle in Europe, a key lesson from the past cycle was just how important a first-class asset management function is to creating and protecting value on behalf of capital partners.
“Ian has an unparalleled track record of delivering complex projects in the UK and contributing to Barings’ European business, and his appointment in this role will be crucial as we seek to maximise the opportunities in European real estate today and expand our assets under management.”
