Bedford Borough Council has launched the search for a development partner to deliver the redevelopment of the Mayes Yard site in Bedford.
The proposed scheme will feature around 250 new homes, commercial space and a library and will form a new cultural and residential hub in the town centre.
The council is inviting expressions of interest from developers to deliver the regeneration scheme.
Andrea Spice, portfolio holder for economic growth, planning and prosperity at Bedford Borough Council, said: “There is a real buzz among businesses and our residents about the exciting changes we are starting to see in our town centre and we want to build on that positivity and momentum.”
John Percy, head of public sector for London and the South East at CBRE, which is advising the council, added: “Mayes Yard represents an exciting opportunity to drive forward the council’s vision for a thriving, inclusive and future-focused Bedford. This is more than just a housing project – it’s about creating a new destination that reflects the town’s growing cultural energy and builds on the significant investment already being made in our high streets, public spaces, and local infrastructure.”
