The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has launched the search for a development partner to create a new intergenerational neighbourhood in Feltham.
In partnership with Hounslow Council and the Greater London Authority, the MoD is seeking a developer to transform a 12.1-hectare site just off Feltham High Street into a new neighbourhood featuring homes, employment space, community facilities and green infrastructure.
In line with the MoD’s Forces First commitment, the development will also support the delivery of better quality homes, ensuring defence land continues to deliver lasting value for both the armed forces community and the wider public.
The MoD site, which was acquired by the War Department during the First World War, sits at the heart of Hounslow’s Future Feltham masterplan, the council’s wider £950m regeneration programme for the town.
The procurement process is expected to complete in summer 2027 and the successful development partner will then prepare a masterplan and submit a planning application before work starts on site from spring 2028.
Shantanu Rajawat, leader of Hounslow Council, said: “We are investing in Feltham to deliver new homes, jobs, skills, community spaces, and better connections. We want the benefits of that investment to be felt locally, through more genuinely affordable homes, good jobs, and opportunities for local people. Feltham MoD is at the heart of our plans and we’re looking for a developer to work with our trailblazing partnership to turn a closed-off site into a place that works for local people, Londoners, and supports our ambition for a fairer future for Hounslow.”
Catherine Davies, head of estates at Defence Infrastructure Organisation, added: “I’m very pleased to be working with Hounslow Council and Greater London Authority to promote the development of this important town centre site in Feltham. Three public authorities coming together with one vision offers a real opportunity for a creative outcome and we’re now looking for a development partner that can work with us to deliver that vision.”
Tom Copley, deputy mayor of London for housing and residential development, said: “Feltham MoD is an opportunity to deliver much needed homes, as well as new jobs and community facilities for Londoners. This trailblazer project is an opportunity to show what can be achieved when central, regional, and local government work hand in hand with development partners to build a better, fairer, more prosperous London for everyone.”
